Milwaukee is not Chicago. The Amtrak station is downtown so we walked the four blocks to our hotel. All the people must be at the Wisconsin State Fair. Where are all the people, maybe Chicago! Since the ride to Chicago is only two hours away, many people commute or spend weekends in the windy city - and the train was full both ways.
Bob is putting in more than his share of walking time. He is really grateful for the rides offered at the Amtrak station, for seniors and anyone considered disabled and I get to go along for the ride, too. We are planning on going to the State Fair and maybe a Brewer's game. Public transportation will make it easy to get to both.
We will play it by ear whether to go or just rest. I've volunteered to find a comfortable place for him and then I'll run around and bring back delicacies like chocolate covered bacon, Krispie Kreme hamburgers, etc., some of the yummies highlighted on the news tonight . . . yuck. A good old corndog will do us. The Wisconsin Cheese Mart is a few blocks from our hotel, I may find myself in line to taste a few REAL cheese samples.
I had a local brew (not Millers) and we savored a Milwaukee tradition, a fish fry plate --it hit the spot. Now, we will find some German or Polish sausages for the next round of drinks. Turners Hall is a historical beer hall and sports gym from way back. It is located across the street from Bradley Center where the Bucks play, in the next two blocks are equally big conference centers and auditoriums and theatres.
