No trip to Chicago is complete without a visit to the flagship retail giant - Marshall Field. It is a beautiful building, so elegant. I took the escalator and then the elevator to every floor. Macy's is now in residence and the associates are living up to the legendary customer service. Yes, I left with a few bags of 'must haves,' including a few boxes of the yummy Frango chocolates, a Field's tradition.
The group had lunch in the Walnut room - like being in Herrod's in London. We had the speciality of chicken salad or chicken pot pie with all the trimmings and really good chocolate ice cream pie. Desserts are an Elderhostel must.
President Obama was in town today - some of our colleagues took pictures of the motorcade as he sped around town. In fact, he edged us out of one of our tours of the Chicago Cultural Center. Oh well, we found another landmark to visit, the Chicago Theatre.
The first three photos are from our visit to the first cinema/vaudeville house. It is still in operation and the stars sign the walls outside the 'star's' dressing room . . . here's Frank Sinatra's signature, he was the first to start the tradition. The group photo were the stars of the week, our Elderhostel group. We were small, but so wonderful.
