Entrance to Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower)
We said our goodbyes to our Elderhostel friends after touring the Chicago History Museum. The morning news featured stories of a lost alligator in the Chicago River, two men missing in Lake Michigan after a late night swim, and Lady GaGa bringing 18 truckloads of costumes, props, and crew for the three day Lollapalooza Festival, which expects to welcome over 250,000 people in Millennium Park. We saw the thousands of port-a-potties as we toured the lake front. Announcements were made of the many street closures due to the filming of the latest Transformers movie.
Bob and I will remember the people: Jenny, thank you for your hospitality and lively conversation. The new friends of Elderhostel who we hope to catch up in other learning adventures in the future. One new friend teaches in Clovis so we will definitely keep in touch.
Also, 1. Five pillows each on our bed.
2.Flowers everywhere and not a sign of chewed gum on any street.
3. Helpful Redcaps at Union Square coming and going on the train.
4. The stories of the Chicago Fire, Chicago World's Fair, and how Mayor Daley ordered that the Meig's Field runway be bulldozed in the middle of the night without any notice.
5. Wonderful restaurants and hidden away treasures we were lucky enough to share with the locals.
6. Seeing where Pres. Obama hangs out at home.
7. Friendly people, hopeful people, and a city that embraces diversity with respect for all people.
8. And, of course, Bob's Viagra joke to close our last dinner with the Elderhostel folks.
Chicago is our new Number One!
A two hour ride north to Milwaukee. This time we will be on our own.
