Marshall Fields - A Lasting Chicago Influence

Wednesday we visited the Field Museum a place that explores the earth and the people. Marshall Fields was asked to contribute to the museum in its early years, and he declined, saying that he wanted people shopping not looking at exhibits. The board convinced him that his name would be forgotten when his retain empire changed hands in the future - but, his name on a great museum would live on forever. He conceded and today Macy's name is on the beautiful Marshall Fields department store.
Bob and I first thought the visit to the Field Museum would be a quick look at a bunch of stuffed animals - WRONG. Our world is truly fascinating. The gems, the plants, birds -- research facilities for DNA and fossil exploration are housed in the museum with real scientists doing real work. All the peoples of the world are represented - past, present and future. Plus, Sue the T-rex is on display to see up close every bone. We walked through a real pyramid.
There were lots of kids and none wanted to go home! Neither did we, but our feet wore out before our brains.
